Ah, the return of Roland Emmerich. But not only does he return, he destroys the world once again. If you never seen a Roland Emmerich film there are a few things to expect. 1. A normal guy saving the people he loves, 2. A lot of stuff being destroyed, and 3. All of the main characters are going to live. Even though some of the scenes are suspenseful to some people, it wasn't for me because I know that nobody will die. 2012 is about a scientist named Adrian Helmsley (Ejiofor) who discovers that the world will end in 2012 because of solar flares. Meanwhile, Jackson Curtis (Cusack), a struggling writer and limousine driver, trys to get his family to Tibet where the government is building arks to save people from the destruction. This movie does have some really good special effects. It also has a good story but it is a clique plot that Roland Emmerich puts inot all of his movies. While I did enjoy all of the destruction and action this movie offered, I think the movie could have been cut a little shorter. It is about two and a half hours long and after a while I got a little bored. It makes me a little sad for Roland Emmerich that he didn't make a better film with the material and budget he had. This movie had potential to be good but it is very long. The movie does have a few points where everything that happens becomes far fetched, a good example being a scene where Jackson Curtis and his family are in a limo and are rushing to an airplane field while all of Los Angeles is being destroyed. But, as I said before, you know nobody will die and they make it to the airplane but only after going through a falling building, dodging cars and debris, and almost being crushed by the famous giant donut on top of Randy's Donuts, a trademark donut shop in Los Angeles. So, there is a point where it becomes cheesy, but that is another thing to expect from a Roland Emmerich film and I don't mind it that much. This movie was not amazing but, if you want to see it, see it on a big screen or get it on Blu-Ray because the special effects will look even better.
